Gesica & Dan’s Wedding

Sunday, June 12th, 2011

Gesica & Dan were married in Rochester, Michigan at the Oak Arbor Church, with a reception that followed at Cherry Creek Golf and Banquet Center.

The schedule for this wedding was a little different than the way most days run down here in Nashville: we started coverage at 7am, but the reception was over around 6… with all of the bridal party scheduled to remain after for an extensive portrait segment. As we moved through the afternoon reception, I noticed that the weather was looking highly questionable, so I pulled Gesica & Dan aside for some quick portraits out on the course. The end of the reception came, and we had just enough time to do some quick group shots before the sky opened up, and we all rushed back inside to the now abandoned reception hall.

There weren’t a ton of indoor settings that were speaking to me for the portraiture that we still needed, so we commandeered the projector screen that had been used for the slideshow, lowered it as close to the floor as it would go (held down with chairs), and set up a mini-studio. I feel that these images have a unique character and definitely show off the personalities of the bridal party.

Thank you to Andrew Welsh of Rochester, NY for providing your skill and perspective throughout the day.

Lara & Charles’s Wedding

Saturday, June 4th, 2011

Lara and Charles were married a few weeks ago at Congregation Micah in Brentwood, with a reception at the War Memorial in downtown Nashville. The event was superbly coordinated by Kristin and her team from Simply Stunning Events. Studio BBC styled the girls’ hair and makeup, Holliday handled the flowers, Chef’s Market prepared the meal, Cakes by Shara made the cake, and Cosmo Creations provided the music for the reception.

So in this case I met with Mom first, as the couple were busy with making Vandy Med look easy. Mom told me “my daughter looks kind of like a young Meg Ryan,” while I nicely smiled and nodded thinking “sure… EVERYONE’S mother thinks they look like an attractive celebrity.” However, I will now admit that I totally see what Lara’s mom was saying: score one for her. As you might guess from the acrobatic donning of the garter shot and the seriously impressive groom lift on the dance floor, Lara has a pretty serious athletic background in addition to being pretty and brilliant. Ya did good Charles.

My images were recorded on Kodak Portra and Ilford B&W films using Leica, Mamiya, and Canon equipment.

Kim & Eric’s Engagement Session

Friday, June 3rd, 2011

Boy, this engagement session took some work. I drove up to Bowling Green THREE times! Twice we had to cancel due to unaccommodating weather, and even the third time we had some sprinkles midway through. Kim & Eric were good sports about it though, and in the end I think the pictures are worth the wait.

This entire session was shot on Kodak Portra and Ilford B&W film.

Eunice & Filip’s Engagement Session

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

I traveled to Pensacola Florida for this engagement session with Eunice and Filip, who have been enormously patient while I have been off running around photographing MMA championships instead of posting their full engagement set.

I dunno what it is about folks with Romanian heritage, but they tend to be very attractive. Go figure.

This is my first session shooting all rangefinder, using both a Leica M6 and a Mamiya 7. I am very pleased with the results.

Some of my Favorite Recent Photos

These are two of my favorite recent photos, both shot from the same spot last week on a rainy day. Both shots on the 1v with 35L, and HP5+ in Rodinol 1:50.
