Elizabeth & Rick’s Wedding
Monday, June 28th, 2010Liz & Rick were married this past Saturday at Benton Chapel on the campus of Vanderbilt University here in Nashville, TN. They got ready at the Hilton Garden Inn on Broadway, and the reception was held at the sumptuous Hermitage Hotel downtown.
One thing that stood out to me about this wedding was the extent to which the music had mattered to Liz and Rick as they planned their day. They hired a very talented full Gospel choir to provide music for the ceremony, and brought in a superb band from Atlanta to keep the party rocking at the reception. Led by Ms. Monique, the group put on a truly impressive performance and kept the large crowd energized until they literally had to be dragged off the dance floor at the end of the night. On a somewhat related note, I’ve been blown away by how popular Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’” has become this summer. Its made an appearance at every single reception this summer, and has always roused the crowd into fist-pumping and sing-alongs. Someone suggested to me that the TV show “Glee” is responsible for the renewed popularity of this venerable anthem.
I have to give Rick significant credit for learning to tie a bow-tie so well: he not only took care of his own, but all of the groomsmen’s as well. Good job making everyone look stylish!

Sarah & Tim’s Wedding
Friday, May 7th, 2010For any of you who have been watching the US News, we had an eventful few days last weekend here in Nashville. I have to say that it was truly remarkable and impressive to observe the poise with which Sarah and Tim handled this potentially stressful situation on their wedding day. Amidst the downpour and flooding, there was at least one event full of joy, warmth, and love.
Mary Natalie Hester also deserves credit for the seamless execution of the event under challenging circumstances, as do the personnel at St. John’s in Franklin and the Hermitage Hotel staff.
You may also notice a handful of B&W film mixed in with this set… Sarah and Tim expressed an interest when I described my new Vintage Collections to them, so I incorporated a few rolls of Ilford into my coverage. These film shots are some of my very favorite images from the day.
Tim is a musician, and so are many of his friends. If you notice that the band is getting a little more attention than usual, its because Tim, Sarah, and many of Tim’s friends stood in and performed during the reception. All of the performances were brilliant, and a unique aspect to this reception.

Terrie and Troy’s Wedding
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009I was thrilled and honored to be chosen as Terrie and Troy’s photographer for their wedding at the beautiful Hermitage Hotel here in Nashville. Terrie is a corporate events planner, and she devoted all of her talents and expertise into making her own big day run smoothly. I was also thrilled that my good friend Kay Anderson was able to join me and contribute his unique perspective to the imagery.
One of my favorite moments from the day was Terrie and Troy’s first look. They first saw each other out on the veranda where their ceremony was soon to be held, with Troy waiting at the end of the aisle for Terrie to make her appearance. Kay caught the moment of Terrie’s first glance through the window panes as she entered the room, with her expression framed perfectly. Its a wonderful piece of photojournalism. When Terrie reached midway down the aisle, she briefly turned to show Troy the back of her dress, and I chose that moment to represent my view of the proceedings. You can see the pride on Troy’s face, combined with the joy visible in Terrie’s expression.
Another favorite moment was Terrie and Troy’s moment alone just after the ceremony, on the mezzanine above the Hermitage Lobby. You can’t pose a moment like that.
Thank you to Terrie and Troy for making me a part of your day!

Randi & Wes’s Wedding
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009I think that Randi & Wes had one of my favorite, most sincerely joyful first looks I’ve ever documented. Randi hid at the top of the beautiful main staircase of Spring Haven Mansion while Wes came in and stood with his back turned at the bottom of the stairs. You can see in the photos the anticipation in his face as she walks down the stairs, the unmitigated joy in her expression as she embraces him, his love as he gazes at the woman he’s about to marry and then subsequently sheds a few tears. Its a beautiful sequence of events, and a special moment to witness.
Randi and Wes had their first date at a Starbucks up in Hendersonville, and then he also proposed there… so it was probably inevitable that we’d make a certain stop later in the night to incorporate a place that had played such a key role in their relationship.
The images at the end of this set were all taken in beautiful Hermitage Hotel in downtown Nashville, where the couple spent their first night as man and wife.
I was thrilled to be accompanied by Mr. Tom Cannon for this set, and some of his excellent work is included here.

Alice & Mike’s Wedding
Saturday, May 3rd, 2008Alice and Mike can dance… REALLY dance. They’re actually competitive ballroom dancers, so their first dance was REALLY something to see! Mike and I also bonded because he is a physician in the military, and had some experience of Special Forces types like myself. Both bride and groom prepared for their nuptials at the gorgeous Hermitage Hotel, and then walked over to the War Memorial for an outdoor ceremony. The reception was held inside War Memorial Auditorium. Thank you so much for being amazing clients guys!
