Doug & Jackie’s Engagement Session
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010Its always an honor when another photographer chooses you to photograph their wedding, and I was particularly pleased when the talented Columbus wedding photographers Doug and Jackie decided that they wanted me to document their engagement and wedding. They drove all the way down from Ohio to do this session!
With their background and passion for photography, I was also thrilled that they elected to have me shoot their entire engagement session on black and white film. This session was shot on a mix of 35mm and 6×7 medium format, using a variety of film stocks.
It was a VERY hot day, so while we started out over at the Steeplechase in Brentwood, midway through the session we decided that we just needed to cool off in Percy Priest Lake. I was thrilled that Doug and Jackie brought their beautiful weimaraners Layla and Gunner, who added a great presence to the shoot.

Terrie & Troy’s Engagement Session
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009Its always nice to work with a couple that I know really gets what I’m all about, and Terrie & Troy are that kind of couple. Troy immediately endeared himself to me at our consultation when he compared my work to “something you might have seen in Life Magazine back in the 40′s or 50′s.” (When such brilliant photographers as Robert Capa, Margaret Bourke-White, and Alfred Eisenstaedt, worked for the publication). There is no surer way to the heart of a photographer than to compare him to his heroes, even if he’s not fit to have held their lens caps.
Troy proposed to Terrie atop a hill in Percy Warner Park, so we returned to that hill overlooking the Steeplechase for their engagement portraits. We had beautiful weather, and I had beautiful subjects with which to work. They were naturals on camera.
Troy has a Rubicon (Jeep), so any member of the Wrangler fraternity has to get at least one photo with it…
Thanks for a great session guys!

Courtney & Mike’s Engagement Session
Sunday, June 7th, 2009Wow its been a busy few weeks! Sorry to everyone if my emails have been a little more tardy than usual: lots of travel and TONS of work. I also owe some of my friends blog comments on their sites: again, my apologies.
Without further ado, here are some of my favorites from Courtney & Mike’s warm-weather engagement session here in Nashville! Thanks for being such great sports guys, and I’m really looking forward to your wedding just around the bend!

Courtney & George’s Engagement Session
Sunday, April 5th, 2009Mother nature was throwing curveballs on Sunday: alternately beautiful and blustery. Courtney, George and I went back and forth a few times on whether we were going to postpone the shoot, but ultimately decided that Tennessee weather in the spring is going to be unpredictable no matter what. Got a bit of a late start, but we made the most of some patches of beautiful light before the storms started rolling in. An hour into the session, the serious weather showed up and we snapped a few dramatic sky shots before calling it a day. You guys still owe me a game of mini-golf!
These images were photographed at Percy Warner Park, home of the Nashville Steeplechase!
