Maura’s Bridal Portraits

I will be shooting the wedding and bridal portraits of Maura’s twin sister Megan this year, and mom decided that she wanted matching (well, stylistically similar) bridal portraits for the recently-wedded Maura. We had a fun time working in the studio, and I’m pretty sure that my demonstrations of feminine posing were at least mildly entertaining to Maura and her mom.

Rebecca’s Bridal Portraits

Rebecca was married this past Saturday at Scarritt Bennett Center here in downtown Nashville, so I’m finally able to post her beautiful bridal portraits that we executed both at Scarritt Bennett, and at my studio. I hope you’re enjoying your honeymoon Rebecca!

Abby & Max’s Engagement Photos

It was a beautiful Easter Sunday to take some engagement photos for Abby and Max, who will be getting married as Scarritt Bennett on New Years Eve this year. We started the session at the Bicentennial Mall, and shot around the state capital building. We finished up the session back at my studio to work on shots in a very different style and look.

It was wonderful working with you guys and I’m looking forward to your wedding in December!

Commercial Work: Joanna Krupa for Powerplate Fitness

As some of you may know, I don’t just shoot weddings… I also maintain a very active commercial business. Its been a very busy winter for me, particularly with my fitness work. I was thrilled when my contact at Power Plate Fitness got in touch with me about shooting supermodel Joanna Krupa as a promotion for their product. They needed a poster for the IHRSA Tradeshow (starting today), handouts for Joanna to sign at the event, and misc website imagery. We shot the set in a great studio in North Hollywood, CA called Glass Slipper Studios, and the incomparable Los Angeles wedding photographer Jason Q Tran was along to help out. Joanna was a joy to work with, and we had a lot of fun on the set!

Amy’s Portraits

Amy Dale is a talented Memphis Wedding Photographer and a good friend of ours. I was thrilled and flattered that she contacted me to shoot some head-shots for her website, and also some portraits for her family to enjoy. So she drove up here to Nashville yesterday (braving some awful traffic), and we had a fun studio session. The incomparable Amy Lynn Larwig provided her makeup expertise on this shoot. Amy Dale is also a talented musician, and the guitar in one of the shots has a great deal of significance to her.

Costa’s Portraits

You may remember Costa from one of my favorite engagement sessions a while back… He and Amy have become good friends of ours, and we were thrilled to have him stop by the studio last night for some wine, music, and portraits. Costa is of Portuguese heritage, so we drank Taylor Fladgate 20yr and listened to Amália Rodrigues while we took these photographs…

First Shoot in the New Studio

Well, we’re finally settled into our new digs and had a chance to do our first shoot in the new studio last night! We were thrilled to have the unbelievably talented Amy Lynn Brown (formerly Larwig) on hand to provide her brilliance with hair and makeup, and it was a total pleasure to photograph the lovely Cardin McKinney. New Studio

I’m excited to announce that as of January 1st, Evan Baines Photography will be moving into an awesome new studio and office space in the heart of Downtown Nashville. For those of you who remember my old studio, its in the same building– but light-years nicer. Its a 4000 sq. ft. space with wonderful natural light, and many attractive background options. This space will enable me to better serve all of my wedding, portrait, and commercial clients.

The studio is located in the Cannery building next to Mercy Lounge, just off 8th Ave South. We will look forward to seeing you there in the new year!

Terrie’s Bridal Portraits

Terrie knew that Troy really was into my studio bridal portraits, so she and I conspired to set up a studio session for her to have a print to give to Troy as a wedding gift. How cool is that!

I’m really pleased with how the whole session came out, but if there was one image that I would consider a favorite, it would be the image with the darker background. I had been shooting the entire time with the flashes going off, but when I set up that shot I did it to use only the modeling light instead of the flash… Terrie looked lovely standing there waiting, thinking about her upcoming wedding. She didn’t realize I was shooting when I took that picture, and I feel there’s a real gravity to the shot: something completely authentic in her expression.

Becky’s Bridal Portraits

Becky is a fun, outgoing kind of lady, and we wanted to reflect her energetic personality (and sense of humor) in her bridal portraits. The bubble-gum image was her idea, and I think its a total hoot! The white on white image for me really captures her personality. I’ve pre-scheduled this blog post to go live right around the time the wedding ceremony takes place today… so if you’re seeing this: congratulations Becky & John!
