This past Saturday, Daniel and I traveled up to Old Hickory, TN to photograph the wedding of Becky and John at the beautiful Hermitage Golf Course. I began the day at the Bellagio Nail Salon in Lebanon, documenting the girls getting manicures and pedicures, while Daniel met up with the guys at Dave & Buster’s for the three B’s: Billiards, Bowling, and Beer. I absolutely love Daniel’s wide-angle shot of the guys in the nearly empty pool hall: its tremendously atmospheric and has beautiful color.

Both parties converged on the golf course in the early afternoon, and the festivities remained there for both the wedding and reception. Becky was reputed to be nervous about the weather prior to the wedding, but she sure won the wedding-weather-lottery! One couldn’t have asked for a nicer fall day in Tennessee! The ceremony was scheduled for 5pm, with the sun setting over our right shoulders as we faced forward in the intimate rose garden adjoining the clubhouse. I’m particularly partial to the image of Becky walking down the aisle with the flaring late afternoon sun in the background, and its companion shot of John watching her down the aisle with a twinkle in his eyes.

We had perfect light for some romantic portraits out on the course after the wedding… Very much the definition of the photographic term “golden hour.”

If you’re looking for a DJ who knows how to RUN a dance floor, then you’ve got to look at Marquis Cayce at I Do Music. I’ve never seen so many different participatory events and dances, and he really did get everyone involved, from kissing contests to conga lines to the YMCA. This was definitely not a reception where everyone sat around staring at an empty dance floor.
